In Mongolia the word 'ger' means 'home' and how wonderfully homely this ger feels! Set a little apart from the rest of the campsite, on the edge of four acres of established woodland and surrounded by beech trees, it's the perfect retreat for a family holiday or a romantic break for two.
The ger has been hand-made from local ash trees and is covered in canvas with a marquee lining on the inside which creates a soft, warm ambience. The ger has larch floorboards and a cast iron woodstove which keeps it warm even in the hardest of winters. We've stayed in the ger when its been -10 degrees and have been toasty warm!
The ger has a central wood burning stove and is furnished with four raised pine bed frames, with covered foam mattresses, silk throws, blankets, cushions and pillows. There are two single beds and one double. There is also a bedside table, a wooden chest full of blankets, shelves, a low table and a two ringed calor gas burner. Soft lighting, sheepskins and cushions create a very relaxing, snug, space. All cooking equipment is supplied – frying pans, saucepans, plates, kettle, mugs and cutlery – and a basket of hardwood for the wood burning stove. Lighting is from a string of LEDs placed around the crown in the middle of the ger and from lanterns. There is a picnic table outside together with an area for a camp fire, a trivet for cooking over the open fire, and a fantastic recycled tyre table and chair set.
As with all the other structures we will give you guidance when you arrive on the use of the stove, cover all health and safety issues and give you a guided tour of the facilities.
