Green Glamping holidays in Carmarthenshire, West Wales!

I think we can all agree that many holiday makers are now taking environmental factors into consideration when choosing where to go on holiday. Great steps forward are being made in tackling climate change. Deciding to stay closer to home in the UK and not to take that tempting trip to a warmer climate is known to massively reduce your personal and family’s carbon footprint… so why not go that one step further and choose a location which goes above and beyond to make greener and healthier choices for our planet?

Larkhill is a certified eco-friendly glamping site and in 2019 we joined Green Key - a programme committed to encouraging and supporting the tourism industry to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly. 

So what makes us an eco-friendly holiday site?

Here at Larkhill we are off the national grid - we create our own electricity by harnessing wind, solar and water power! We have done since we moved here over 25 years ago! Although we have no electrical plug-in points in any of the yurts (there is a place for your chargers in the communal log cabin though!) all of our dwellings have their own lighting source powered by leisure batteries which we simply charge up every month. Being off-grid does have a few limitations which require compromise - for example we don't create enough electricity to run a fridge in each of our glamping accommodations - we use cool boxes with ice packs to keep your food nice and cool. However we have enough - and love that we are a self-sufficient glamping site!

Recycling is also a biggie for us!  We make it easy to recycle your waste here and really hope that guests who stay feel inspired to keep the recycling ethos going when they get home.

We also have a compost loo! Following a design from The Centre of Alternative Technology we built our own. Our guests - after a bit of a giggle at the two toilet seats for the "dry" and "wet" - often marvel at it!
