What to take Glamping

So you’re thinking about taking a glamping trip to west Wales?

You’ve definitely made a great choice, but what to expect… and what should you pack for glamping? This guide covers all aspects of what to pack and what to be prepared for, just in case you’ve never been glamping before!

Bedding

Unlike camping, glamping usually means you won’t have to pack your own bedding. Some glampsites ask you to bring your own but at Larkhill Tipis we give you the option - bring your own or we will supply it for you.  The reason this isn’t always included for glampsites is practicality - bedding can’t be left in tented accommodation in case it gets damp so more time is involved taking it to and fro.  Also, our glamping site is completely off grid, we generate our own electricity, so the less laundry we have the better!  So it’s always worth double checking before you set off on your glamping stay that it does include bedding.

Cooking equipment

Once again, unlike camping, with glamping all your cooking equipment and kitchen needs are provided. Here at our yurt and tipi glamping site each of our yurts and tipis has a small camping stove inside, but we also have a communal kitchen which has everything you will need. We also have outdoor campfires for a ‘proper experience’ and charcoal BBQ’s which you can use. Always check what refrigeration facilities there are, you may be offered a cool box and ice packs, like here at Larkhill.

Firewood

Some glampsites heat their glamping units with wood burning stoves, so you should check that wood will be available to buy at the site. Here at Larkhill Tipis and Yurts we have our own firewood - most of it actually comes from our own woodland! This is at a reasonable price, much lower than you would buy elsewhere.

The joy of a stay based on the outdoors is the ability to have a campfire. Each of our glamping accommodations has its own outdoor fire area or you can meet up with other glampers at the communal campfire. Marshmallows are a must!

Food

Most glamping sites are self-catering so you will have to take your own food. A few things to consider is what food to cook. Limiting dishes to one-pan-recipes can help if you are cooking above an open fire, but then you would need to consider the weather forecast. Having easy to prepare meals would be wise. Also consider your journey length/time and where it would be convenient to do your shopping. Don’t rely on a glamping site having, for example, things like milk or bread.

Clothing

  • Be practical and think of the weather. When it comes to glamping in west Wales you need to be practical and plan ahead, packing needs to be based around weather conditions.
  • Temperatures can drop at night so we would recommend packing lots of thin layers which can help keep you warm, but you can then remove them if you get too warm. A raincoat should always be packed!
  • You will also need to consider footwear. If you want to do lots of walking in the countryside, think boots and wellies. Some easy sliders of flip flops might be handy to wear to and from the shower/toilet facilities.
  • Here at our tipi and yurt holiday site we are surrounded by nature, so if you are bringing children with you make sure you pack clothes suitable for playing outdoors.

Personal Comforts

  • Towels - these may not be provided at your glamping site, quick drying micro-fibre towels are a great idea.
  • As an eco friendly site we encourage the use of our eco-friedly products here and provide shampoo, conditioner and soap. Don’t forget the rest of your toiletries though!
  • As mentioned above flip flops or sliders are a great idea for quick trips to the shower/toilet. You may want some cosy socks or slippers inside the yurt or tipi.
  •  Headlamp/Torch for navigating at night. Although we have fairy lights and motion sensors here at Larkhill a head torch is recommended.
  • Bug spray - midges can be an issue in the summer months, so it’s never a bad idea to come with some bug-repellant and some bite relief cream.
