Shorter summer holidays

If you live in Wales you may have seen some media coverage on proposed changes by the Welsh Government for ‘modernising’ the school holidays. In short it would seem that the reasoning for shorter school holidays is to encourage the Welsh language as it is suggested that children from English speaking homes in Wales would benefit from a shorter break away from the language during the summer holidays.  With the Welsh Government’s target of having 1 million Welsh speakers by 2050, a large drive is being made to encourage children in particular to hold on to their Welsh speaking skills.

The repercussions of the proposed plans would have huge implications not only on families, teachers and workplaces but also on the tourism/holiday sector.

Unlikely change of policy!

We recently attended a Tourism meeting with speakers who have regular communication with Government ministers. They consider it unlikely that these changes will actually take place and if they did it would take many years to negotiate with teachers unions, university start dates etc. It is likely that many sectors will strongly oppose such a radical change to the school holidays as we know them now.

No school holiday Price Hikes for your Glamping break!

As many of you know here at Larkhill Tipis and Yurts we have a very different pricing policy from most during the summer and school holidays. We simply don’t believe in raising our prices as we believe this penalizes families; often forcing parents to remove their children from school during term time in order to afford a much deserved family break and adventure. Some holiday sites can have a school holiday price hike of up to 75%!

Same price all year around in Tipi and Yurt Holidays!

Here, we do have a weekend and a mid-week rate, but the price stays the same for 52 weeks of the year! Meaning as long as you book your yurt holiday (or indeed tipi holiday) early enough, a holiday at peak times will not cost you any more than if you had taken the kids out of school for a break.

Unfortunately we haven’t come across many other companies that offer ethical holidays like this, although it probably doesn’t please our accountant, it makes for many happy families in the summer, which gives us a lot of pleasure.

One can only imagine how expensive summer holidays will become in Wales if the period allocated for summer adventures shortens.
