Woodland Glamping With Kids!

The joy of childhood is often found in the simplest of moments and playing in the woods encapsulates that perfectly!

One of the things we have loved most about welcoming guests here for their glamping holidays is seeing families enjoy nature and exploring in the woods. When guests’ children form friendships and they set off playing together - well, it truly makes our day. Although we love hearing children having fun in our adventure park, it's great to see them play games and create their own stories and games, becoming a little feral in a safe environment. It’s not all about marshmallows around the campfire (although that too of course!)

There are so so many glamping sites in Wales now and although most are unique in their own way we like to think of our yurts and tipis as not just somewhere that gives you a quirky night’s sleep but as a destination in its own right - and we think our woodland glamping site does just that!

The woods where our yurts and tipis are situated are not just a backdrop; they are a canvas for play, and a kid’s treasure trove! The fairy village inspires the imagination of a fantasy world and the little winding paths create a sense of being lost in the wilderness! 

So, let’s embrace the call of the wild and make memories that will last a lifetime. After all, there’s nothing quite like the joy of childhood spent in the great outdoors. .

Games to play with woods with kids

1. Den making. Using material found in the woodland we encourage you to find branches to make your very own den, great for imaginary play!                                                                                                                                            
2. Nature Scavenger Hunt: Create a list of items to find, such as specific leaves, pinecones, or animal tracks. Kids can race to collect everything on the list, fostering teamwork and exploration.                                                                      
3. Capture the Flag: A classic outdoor game that can be played with two teams. Each team hides their flag in their territory while trying to capture the opposing team's flag. The woods provide natural hiding places and obstacles.                  
4. Hide and Seek: A timeless favorite, the woods offer plenty of hiding spots. One person counts while others find places to hide, making for an exciting game of stealth and strategy.                                                                                     
5. Obstacle Course: Use fallen logs, rocks, and other natural elements to create an obstacle course. Kids can race against the clock or each other, testing their agility and creativity.                                                                                        
6. Leaf Rubbings: Collect different leaves and place paper over them. Kids can use crayons to rub over the leaves, creating beautiful imprints. This activity can be both artistic and educational.
7. Nature Art: Use items found in the woods—like twigs, leaves, and stones—to create art projects. This encourages creativity and appreciation for the natural world.
8. Follow the Leader: One child leads the group on a nature walk, choosing paths and activities like jumping over logs or climbing small hills. It encourages observation and physical activity.

We’ve been really fortunate in that our own children have been able to grow up in the woodlands here. Den making became a regular occurrence…  even the local primary school kids have put their skills to the test!

Although the above are great if your children get stuck on what to play, letting them explore independently and come up with their own games and ideas are part of the magic of childhood - something we value here at our very own woodland glamping site in west Wales.
