We are very lucky to live and welcome our glamping guests to our wonderful local area. Many guests choose to stay with us because of our proximity to Carmarthen, a charming town in West Wales. Carmarthen is steeped in history and brimming with cultural treasures. Known as the oldest town in Wales, it offers a delightful mix of historical sites, scenic beauty, and vibrant local culture. Whether you're a history enthusiast, nature lover, or simply looking for a unique getaway, Carmarthen has something for everyone. Here are some must-visit attractions when exploring this picturesque town and its surrounding areas. Our unique yurt and tipi holiday glamping site is just 25 minutes away from Carmarthen itself. 

1. The Castles!

Originally built in the 11th century, Carmarthen Castle stands as a testament to the town's rich medieval history. Although much of the castle is in ruins, its imposing gatehouse still offer a glimpse into its majestic past. Visitors can wander through the remnants and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area. Information panels provide insights into the castle’s storied history, making it a must-visit for history buffs.

A short drive from Carmarthen, Kidwelly Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Wales. This impressive structure, with its towering walls and impressive gatehouse, offers visitors a chance to explore its history and architecture. The castle's location by the River Gwendraeth adds to its scenic charm, making it a perfect spot for a family day out.

To the North of Carmarthen there are also the Castles of Dinefwr, Dryslwyn and Newcastle Emlyn. Each steeped in history. Dryslwyn Castle and the castle in Newcastle Emlyn are free to wander around. Newcastle Emlyn is the closest to us, and it's only a 10 minute drive from Larkhill Tipis and Yurts. 

Llansteffan Castle south of Carmarthen stands on the edge of the Carmarthen Bay. With a short walk to the beach and outstanding views over the estuary, it is quite often seen in many brochures for Wales. 

3. The National Botanic Garden of Wales

Just a short drive from Carmarthen lies the National Botanic Garden of Wales, a haven for nature enthusiasts. This expansive garden showcases a stunning array of plant species from around the world, housed in the world’s largest single-span glasshouse. Visitors can explore themed gardens, enjoy peaceful walks and participate in various workshops and events. It's a perfect spot for a leisurely day out with family or friends. 4. Carmarthenshire County Museum

Housed in a former Bishops Palace, the Carmarthenshire County Museum provides a fascinating journey through the region’s history. From Roman times to the present day, the museum’s exhibits cover a wide range of topics, including archaeology, costume and agriculture. Highlights include an intricately carved 12th-century bishop’s crozier and a stunning collection of Welsh furniture. The museum’s beautiful grounds are also perfect for a relaxing stroll. 5. Oriel Myrddin Gallery

Art lovers should not miss a visit to the Oriel Myrddin Gallery, Carmarthen's leading contemporary art space. The gallery hosts a dynamic program of exhibitions featuring both local and international artists. 6. Gwili Railway
