Tipi holidays for over 20 years at Larkhill!

In the countryside in West Wales for the last 22 years Larkhill Tipis and Yurts has  been providing unique glamping holidays. We started with a Tipi - knowing very little about them! When you think of a Tipi you may think of a classic white canvas, something we embraced. However, after all this time a transformation has unfolded - as the iconic white tipi has been replaced with a dark, earthy-hued canvases, redefining the glamping experience!

The rising popularity of Tipis in the UK

We were one of the first Tipi Holiday sites in the UK and over the last 10 years the glamping experience has become hugely popular. One of the influencing factors we think for the popularity of the Tipi is of course Glastonbury Festival. In fact in our first year this is how we advertised our glamping business - with our teenage daughters we took a box of fliers to the festival in 2003 and handed them out to all and sundry. We had quite a few guests come to stay with us off the back of this marketing strategy! Tipis, or Teepes, have become popular venues for many other events. Within just 10 miles of us there is a Pizza Tipi and a wedding Tipi venue! Chances are you have heard of a Tipi holiday, a Pizza Tipi or have been to a Tipi wedding or a Tipi party before!

The Journey to Dark Canvas, a new look for our Tipi!

The decision to change from the classic white canvas to a dark canvas was carefully considered. The original white canvas tipi, inspired by Native American traditions, stood out against the green backdrop, offering an eye-catching contrast. Although creating something eye-catching has been an appeal for our Tipi holidays, we’ve felt for a while that by embracing darker earthier tones we are integrating with the surroundings on a more ecological level, reflecting the environment in which the Tipi stands. The change was a good one - it’s amazingly atmospheric with little faery lights across the canopy. Furthermore it was a sustainable decision too, the white canvas needing to be replaced annually to retain its pristine look.

As you can see from our photo carousel, our Tipis have had a few transformations over the years. We’ve made many gradual adjustments to increase comfort for guests and practically for the environment. 

 We loved everything about our stay, back to nature with a twist. The Tipis were beautiful and the surrounding land was stunning. We were not expecting how intricate all the detail and design was, how everything is thought out, it is lovely. Would highly recommend.
